Friends FAQs (Adding, removing, searching for friends and friends groups)
Q1. What does this friends feature do?
The friends feature is like an address book where you can maintain a
list of your friends, family, co-workers, etc. with whom you go out
often or plan events and outings.
Your friends also need to be members of ActiveCiti to use all the
benefits that ActiveCiti has to offer.
Adding someone as a friend makes it easy to invite the person to
some event the next time around.
Q2. What are friends groups?
"Friends Groups" is a new feature by which you can categorize
your friends into various groups.
Thus you can have a School Friends Circle, a College Friends, Family, Co Workers, etc.
A single friend can be part of multiple groups.
The Friends groups feature makes it easier to invite a group of people to an event.
For e.g. If you are planning a movie outing with your co workers, you can directly add
everyone from the co workers group and speed up the event creation process.
Q3. How can I add a particular friend to a group?
This is pretty simple.
Go to your friends page and after finding the friend you want to add to a particular
group, check the checkbox next to his/her name.
After doing this, you can use the "Actions" drop down to add the friend to the group of your choice.
Q4. How can I search for people on ActiveCiti to add to my friends list?
On the friends page, there is an option to search for users provided you know their name
or email address.
The first section on the left hand side allows you to type in a name (max upto 3 words) or
an email address (complete or incomplete) to search the database for that particular user.
Once you have zeroed in on a particular user, you can add him/her as your friend by clicking the
"Add to friends" link next to the name of the particular person.
Q5. What happens when I send someone a friend request?
When you send someone a friends request, that person gets an email asking whether they would
like to add you as a friend.
They are also sent a link to your public profile.
Once they authorize you, both of you get added to each others friends list.
Q6. What happens when I remove someone as a friend?
When you remove someone as a friend, both of you get removed from each other's friends list.
Q7. How can I report abuse?
You can report abuse using the Feedback Form.
Please also key in the details of your complaint and we will take the
necessary action on investigating it.
ActiveCiti intends to be an extremely clean and people friendly website and therefore takes
extremely strict measures to ensure that no untoward incidents take place here.
Q8. How do I bulk invite people to join ActiveCiti / be my friend?
If you have a lot of friends you want to invite to ActiveCiti, you can use the bulk
invite feature available on the friends page.
Make sure you separate all the emails with commas (,) and we will send them invitations to join ActiveCiti.
Checking the "Add to Friends" box below will add them to your friends group when they sign up on ActiveCiti.
If you use services such as GMail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Orkut, etc. which export address books in the CSV format,
you can upload these files on ActiveCiti and we'll send out an email to all your friends inviting them.
If an email you entered is already you're friend, we just ignore it. So you do not have to worry about spamming your friends.
Q9. I sent someone a friend request, but they claim they have not got it. What can I do?
Friend requests are sent via email only as of now.
You can ask the person to check his spam folder incase the email found its way there.
If the email is not in the spam, you can try sending them a request again.
Please note that you can send friend requests to only those email addresses which are already registered on ActiveCiti.
Q10. When I delete a particular friends group, do all my friends get deleted from that group?
No.
A friends group should be treated as a label instead of a directory.
Hence when you delete a particular friends group, the particular label gets removed from all
the friends that were in the group, and these friends will continue to exist in your friends list.
Q11. When someone searches for me, what all information can the person see about me?
When someone checks out your profile, the information that is definitely shown is:
- Your Name
- Your Gender
- Your Avataar
