General FAQs (Things about ActiveCiti that you should know)



Q1. What is ActiveCiti really?
ActiveCiti is this extremely cool web application which lets you create events and manage them extremely quickly and easily. It was written to solve an extremely common problem which we faced as students - and that was organising small, everyday events with friends - like going to the movies, planning a dinner party, picnics etc.

ActiveCiti lets you organise these things effortlessly and within minutes.
It also, removes the hassle of notifying all your invitees if your event changes or gets cancelled, because it does it automatically for you.

Q2. What do I need to start using ActiveCiti? 
All you need to start using ActiveCiti is a valid email address and access to the Internet.
ActiveCiti was designed to look good at a resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater and has been thoroughly tested on the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox 2.0+, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+

In case you are using some other browser / resolution settings, and are having problems, we recommend you switch to the settings and browsers mentioned above.

Q3. Is this website city specific? 
No.
Event though the website is called ActiveCiti, it is not specific to any city and you can use it from anywhere in the world to plan your events.

Q4. Is this a free service? 
Absolutely.
ActiveCiti is entirely free to use. No strings attached. Though, we might add premium features in the future which would require a nominal fee, ActiveCiti currently, as it stands - is completely free to use. 

Q5. I had an account on the previous version of ActiveCiti. Can I still use that username / password combination to login?
Yes and no.
There has been a major shift from versions 1 to 2 and as such, a lot of things have changed.
The usernames have changed to the previously registered email addresses.

So, if in your previous account, your registered email was abc@yahoo.com, your new username will be: abc@yahoo.com
All passwords of the previous users have been randomly resetted to new ones and these have been emailed to the address which you had specified earlier.
If in the time being, your email address has changed, you will need to register again with the new email address.

Q6. Is this another social networking site like Orkut? 
Not at all.
What social networking sites do - is help you in expanding your social circle by introducing you to new people.
ActiveCiti, on the other hand, allows you to add only the people you know to your friends circle. The friends section works more like a (verified) address book in an email application than a friends network on a social networking site.

Q7. My profile image is getting resized. Why?
ActiveCiti requires that your profile image be 70 x 80 pixels in dimension.
However, we understand that it is not possible for you to have the images of this size. Hence, if your profile image is larger than the dimensions specified, we resize the image accordingly - automatically.

Q8. I just updated my profile image – but I still see the previous one. What should I do? 
This happens because your previous image has been stored in your browser cache.
Hitting a page refresh (or F5 on most browsers) generally fixes this problem.

Q9. Are there any restrictions on the profile images (avatars) that I can use? 
Yes. The general restrictions apply.
  • The images cannot contain copyright artwork.
  • The images cannot contain nudity.
  • The images should not contain material that would be deemed offensive by some people.

Q10. I registered with ActiveCiti – but still am not able to login. Why?
ActiveCiti requires you to validate your email. So after you sign in, we send you an email with a link which you need to visit in order to validate your account.
On doing so, your account will get validated and you will be able to login.

If you have validated your account and still cannot login, you are most probably entering the wrong password.

Q11. How can I suggest features or submit bug reports?

Q12. I think this is an awesome concept, how can I invite all my friends to join in?
Once you have joined ActiveCiti, there is a section in the friends page which lets you bulk invite all your friends to join ActiveCiti.

Q13. I am running into problems while using ActiveCiti and cannot figure some stuff out. What are my options?
If you have already tried going through the help and the FAQs, you can use this form to contact us.
We'll get back to you in a matter of hours.

Q14. I want to remove my account. How do I go about doing that?
Though we would really hate to see you go, you can request being removed from ActiveCiti.
Use this form to send in your request.

Though please note that when your account gets removed, you get removed from all your friends lists and events that you have been invited to. And also, all the events that you had previously created will be cancelled.
