Public Event FAQs (What are public events and what you can do with them)
Q1. What are public events?
Public events are events like seminars, rock shows, exhibitions etc. which you want as
many people as possible to attend.
Unlike private events, the public event display page can be seen and searched by everyone
(even non ActiveCiti members).
However, most of the features available in the private events are also available to invitees
on public events.
Q2. Can I host a public event for free on ActiveCiti?
Yes.
Hosting public events on ActiveCiti is completely free.
Q3. What is the difference between a public event and a private event?
A lot actually. A private event is something which is, well, private to you and you would
like to invite only a select group of people.
A public event is something which is attended by a lot of people. Saying this, there is
nothing stopping you from making a private event - a public one and vice versa.
However, on ActiveCiti, the main differences between these two types of events are:
Private Events
- The private event page is viewable only by those people who are invited to the event.
- This event is not searchable when someone searches in the database.
Public Events
- The public event page can be viewed by anyone - even non ActiveCiti members.
- When someone searches in the public event page and your event matches any of the criteria,
your event details will be viewable by him / her.
- Any person interested in attending the event can invite himself / herself to the event.
You can however, invite people in both the types of the events and in a public event -- the invitees
will see more details than a non invitee who is viewing the page. The invitee will have access to
the public forum and also the details of the organiser.
Good candidates for private events would be birthday / anniversary parties, movie outings, picnics, class reunions, etc.
Events such as rock shows, seminars, etc. will come under the public events category.
Q4. I want to know about all the events happening in a particular city – how can I do that?
Please go to the
Public Events page
and key in the city you are looking for in the City textbox - keeping the keywords textbox blank.
Hit search.
Q5. Can I invite people to a public event, like I can for a private event?
Yes.
Invitations work exactly the same way in public events as they do in private events.
This means, you can add invitees, organisers, send them email updates, etc.
However, in the event display page, only the invitees can access the public discussion forum.
Also, whenever there are any changes in the event, only the invitees will get an email notifying them of the same.
Q6. Is the public event page visible to even non ActiveCiti members?
Yes.
Q7. How can I be notified every time there are changes in public events?
If you come across a public event page that you are keen on attending, but have not
been invited to, you can use the "Email Organiser" box to email the event owner
and ask him/her to invite you for the event.
Once they invite you, you will be notified automatically whenever there are changes in the event.
Also, you will then get access to the public forum for the event and be able to let the
owner know whether you will be attending the event or not.
